Collective Soul hit mainstream in 1994 when they signed with Atlantic Records and released Hints, Allegations, & Things Left Unsaid that same year. It would go on to hit double-platinum status by 1996. Collective Soul managed to capture their image in tune with the grunge look of that same time. Flannel shirts, jeans, and long hair were prevalent in Collective Soul videos, and worked well with their sound. "Shine" would become the No. 1 rock song of 1994 when it won a Billboard Award for Top Rock Track.
Their self-titled release in 1995 went triple-platinum by 1996 and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200. Three singles peaked at No. 1, and "December" won Collective Soul another Top Rock Track at the Billboard Awards in 1995. However, 1997's Disciplined Breakdown had a slightly different sound than the previous releases. It did see two No. 1 hits, and another single in the Top 10. Blender, released in 1999, saw a more pop sound, but Collective Soul was still seen as a rock band. It was their fifth straight release to debut in the Top 25 and was certified gold only a few months later.
By 2001, Collective Soul had finished out their contract with Atlantic and finished it with 7EVEN Year Itch, which was a Greatest Hits release that also featured two new singles. Even though they continued to put on concerts here and there, many believed that over the course of the next few years Collective Soul had broken up.
Finally, in 2004 Collective Soul had a new website and released the long-awaited Youth through their indie label El Music Group. The album debuted in the Billboard 200 at No. 66, and did have a Top 10 hit with "Counting the Days." From the Ground Up, released in May 2005, was an eight-song acoustic compilation.
Collective Soul tours with band members Ed and Dean Roland, Will Turpin, Joel Kosche, and Ryan Hoyle.
