While other similar performers have come from places such as Atlanta, Compton, or New York City, newcomer Chris Brown hails from Tappahannock, Virginia. In Tappahannock, Chris Brown is one of the town's population of 2,000. The 16-year-old has already been drawing comparisons to Michael Jackson and Usher as far as singing ability. But his music, style, and flavor are all his own.

Chris Brown began listening to Sam Cooke, Stevie Wonder, and Aretha Franklin, among others, at a young age. Sooner or later, Chris Brown was more drawn to rap than anything else, and it was only a matter of time until he realized that he could sing. When he was 13, Chris Brown and his mother began the search for a producer. He had already honed in on his singing, songwriting, and dancing skills by the age of 16 when he finally found one.

The first single off of his self-titled debut, "Run It," hit No. 1 on both the US Hot 100 and the US R&B/Hip Hop 100, while hitting No. 2 on the UK Singles charts. Chris Brown debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums chart while hitting No. 1 on the US R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. His debut has since gone Platinum. Another single, "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)," hit No. 7. Chris Brown is planning on releasing two more singles off of his album.
