Celtic Woman Information

Five women make up Celtic Woman, otherwise they would be called Celtic Man. Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, Orlagh Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Chloe Agnew and Mairead Nesbitt make up Celtic Woman, who began as a dream of composer and musical director David Downs and producer Sharon Browne.

Five singers including a fiddler were tapped for Celtic Woman. Downes had previously worked with Riverdance, and was eager to portray the unique voices and styles of each of his Celtic women through ensemble numbers.

Celtic Woman manages to play unique renditions of traditional Irish songs including classics and contemporaries. In the beginning, Celtic Woman was a 90-minute PBS show that would premiere in the United States in 2005. Soon enough, the show was broadcast on over 300 stations and would turn into a full scale tour for Celtic Woman.

Eventually Celtic Woman would hit No. 1 on the World Music charts in the United States and on Amazon.com. Celtic Woman now hold the record as the artist with the longest ever No. 1 spot on the Billboard World Music Charts. The CD has gone gold, and the DVD has gone platinum. Celtic Woman will release the Celtic Woman Christmas Album in October 2006, with plans for a Celtic Woman 2 to come in 2007.
