New Jersey musicians Tomas Kalnoky and Chris Greer met Kevin Gunther at a local record store and the three would go on to form Catch 22. A mutual interest in punk and ska music was their starting point but they set out to create a fresher sound. Friends Jamie Egan, Josh Ansley, and Ryan Eldred joined the band and they started selling out live shows. Two years later they were signed by an independent label.
Their 1998 debut album was called Keasbey Nights. When the lead singer Kalnoky left some lineup changes occurred. Pat Calpin, Jeff Davidson, and Pat Kays, and Ian McKenzie joined the lineup. With the new lineup they recorded Alone In A Crowd. Three former members of Catch 22 went on to form Streetlight Manifesto. In 2006 Catch 22 released their fifth studio album, Permanent Revolution.
