Chuck Daellenbach, Stuart Laughton, and Gene Watts founded the brass quintet Canadian Brass in 1970 and they have more than 60 albums to their credit. They formed in Toronto, Ontario. Seamlessly crossing between classical and jazz styles Canadian Brass performs in black suits and white gym shoes. The current members are: Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Justin Emerich (trumpet), Gene Watts (trombone), and Bernhard Scully (horn).
The group has a long history of recording classical repertoire. They have a special affinity for Baroque music. As pioneers they started with a very limited base of traditional works for brass. During their more than 35 years together Canadian Brass has been transcribing, arranging and commissioning more than 200 works. In addition to their classical pieces they expanded into jazz, contemporary concert music and popular songs. They have released eight videos and a DVD. They have also appeared as guests with several famous Pops symphonies and on The Tonight Show, Today, and Entertainment Tonight.
In 2006 they created the trumpet "Dream Team;" joining Bernhard Scully, horn, Gene Watts, trombone, and Chuck Daellenbach, tuba, in concert will be trumpet performers Joe Burgstaller, Stuart Laughton, Ryan Anthony, Jeroen Berwaerts, and Ron Romm.
