Raised in Georgia Bill Currington revels in the pleasures of a slow life. Growing up in a small town he has simple values and avoids many of the trappings of success. Currington told CMT, "Southern means down home—fried chicken, my grandparents, my family and the way they raised me and the way we carry ourselves through life. My music is based on the life that a Southern boy has lived—the way we do things."
Born in 1973 he grew up listening to Kenny Rogers, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and the Statler Brothers. Writing songs as a teenager he began playing guitar at age 17. He wrote the chorus of his single "Walk a Little Straighter" when he was 12, reflecting on life with his alcoholic step-father. He moved to Nashville after graduation. While working as a personal trainer a client helped him break into the music industry.
In 2003 his self-titled debut yielded two Top 10 country singles including "I Got a Feelin'." He followed that up with a Top 10 duet alongside Shania Twain. In 2005 he released his sophomore album Doin' Something Right. The first single "Must Be Doing Something Right," hit No. 1.
Billy Currington is one of seven children. He is single and lives in Nashville.
