Bill Maher Information

Born in New York City in 1956, Bill Maher grew up in River Vale, New Jersey. His mother is Jewish and his father is Catholic but Maher opposes organized religion. Bill Maher paid his dues as a stand up comedian working up to appearances for Johnny Carson and David Letterman. He still does concerts occasionally. He appeared in a number of guest roles on television shows, including Newhart, Murder, She Wrote, Roseanne (as a boudoir photographer), and Married... with Children. His film debut was in 1983's D.C. Cab with a number of small roles in films through the years.

Bill Maher is the former host of Politically Incorrect, which aired on the Comedy Central television network and later ABC. He was let go after controversial comments alienated some of the show sponsors following the September 11 attacks. Maher is also currently the host of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.

Bill Maher has stated that he is an anti-religion, pro-death libertarian. In other words, he acknowledges the possibility of God's existence but condemns organized religion as hypocritical. He supports the death penalty, abortion and euthanasia. He is also an environmentalist.
