Bill Deasy's songwriting was influenced by Elvis Presley, Jackson Brown, Van Morrison, and Bruce Springsteen. His songs are intelligent and emotional – and yet completely accessible. A wide array of artists have recorded his songs including Kim Richey, Martina McBride, the Clarks, British pop star Howard Jones, Billy Ray Cyrus, Bijou Phillips and Michael Stanley.
Bill Deasy got his start as the lead singer/songwriter of the Gathering Field. Their regional hit "Lost in America" brought a record deal. But the record company was restructured and the Gathering Field was lost in the shuffle.
In 1999, Bill Deasy released his first solo record, titled Spring Lies Waiting while still with the Gathering Field. In 2001 ABC's Good Morning America gave him national television exposure using his song, "Good Things Are Happening," in a national promo for program. The promotion was so popular it was extended from 10 weeks to more than 3 years. His new CD, Chasing Down a Spark is the follow-up to his acclaimed 2003 release, Good Day No Rain. Many musical heavyweights have recognized his talent; he has opened for Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, Patty Griffin, John Mellencamp, and Bruce Springsteen.
In August of 2006 Bill Deasy published his first novel, "Ransom Seaborn."
