Be Your Own Pet features Jemina Pearl Abegg on vocals, Jonas Stein on guitar, Nathan Vasquez on bass, and Jamin Orrall on drums. The quartet met at the Nashville School of the Arts. All four have parents who work in the arts including Robert Ellis Orrall, a producer and songwriter for indie label Infinity Cat Recordings. Originally this group of teenagers started just hanging out in a basement and from their boredom a band was born. Jake Orrall played bass with them in 2003 and they went by the name Night Shift Nurses. But Jake left for college and the band eventually hit the road.

Today, the four-piece post-punk group from Nashville, Tennessee, is gaining a following. They have been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine and have appeared on Conan O'Brien. Their debut single "Damn Damn Leash" on Infinity Cat brought them national attention while they were still in early high school. Their self-titled debut album was released in June 2006. Their sound is characterized by heavy rock guitars with abrasive vocals.
