Bacilos Information

Bacilos, the latin music group based in Miami, Florida started out as a quartet but was a trio by their first album. Colombian singer and guitarist Jorge Villamizar, bassist André Lopes, and percussionist José Javier Freire make up the band Bacilos.

Formed in the mid 1990s by three students of the University of Miami, the band drew influences from Cuban folk singer Silvio Rodríguez and Argentinian rock singer Fito Paez.

An independent album was followed by a Warner Music-backed debut which earned Latin Grammy nominations.

Their album Caraluna won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Pop Latin Album. Caraluna charted in several countries, won a Grammy, and produced the smash hit "Mi Primer Millon." A 2004 Bacilos album Sin Verguenza was also very popular.
