B2k is a Los Angeles, California, based boy band which comprises of Omarion (born Omari Ishmael Grandbery, on November 12 1985, Los Angeles, California, USA), Raz-B (born De'mario Monte Thornton, on June 13 1985, Cleveland, Ohio, USA), Lil Fizz (born Druex Pierre Fredericks, November 26, 1985, Los Angeles, California, USA) and J-Boog (born Jarell Damonte Houston, on August 11 1985, Los Angeles, California, USA). The quartet was founded and managed by music producer Chris Stokes in 2001 and active until 2004, that was one of the most popular R&B acts of the early 2000s. Stokes had discovered the boys a few months previously at an Epic Records showcase for new talent, where the flashy heartthrobs showed off their irresistible vocal harmonies and hip, complex dance routines that sucked Epic executives right in. B2K garnered mainstream recognition long before the release of their self-titled debut CD. The guys spent two and a half months in the summer of 2001 opening for Lil' Bow Wow and later appeared in the video for his recent hit "Ghetto Girls". Critics and fans alike agree - B2K had young concert fans going wild, but their energetic stage presence also brought back some great memories to older audiences, evoking the spirit of the Jackson 5 and New Edition. The clean-cut quartet broke into the US pop charts in early 2002 with the infectious "Uh Huh", a steamy dance track in marked contrast to the usual material flavored by boy bands. The single was helped by a stylish Hype Williams video. Their debut album enlisted a roster of hot producers, including C. "Tricky" Stewart (Blu Cantrell, Usher), who had produced the smooth and magnetic single "Uh Huh," and Atlanta's all-persuasive hit maker Jermaine Dupri (Kriss Kross, Xscape, Da Brat, TLC, Mariah Carey, Lil' Bow Wow), who tightened up the track "Last Boyfriend" into a stylish hip-hop-meets-soul jam. The album however only briefly repeated the success of "Uh Huh", with stand-out tracks including "Gots Ta Be" and "Understanding". Nevertheless, B2K debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 in March. Their second (and final) regular studio album, Pandemonium!, was released in December of the same year. The quartet enjoyed further success when their collaboration with P. Diddy (bad boy owner and Sean John designer), "Bump, Bump, Bump", broke into the upper regions of the US singles chart. The single completed the climb to the number 1 position in January 2003, with also help of another hit single from the album "Girlfriend. "The group was featured regularly on the covers of teen magazines such as Right On and Word Up, and released a Christmas album in-between their regular two albums entitled Santa Hooked Me Up. In addition to that, they were featured on the soundtrack album for MGM's film Barbershop and headlined "The Scream Team Tour," their third, in 2003. Mario and Nick Cannon were also performers on "The Scream Team Tour." In January 2004, Chris Stokes announced that the group had broken up. Three of the members claimed financial mishandling by Stokes' management company, TUG (The Ultimate Group); the fourth member, Omarion, claimed the allegations were untrue. In the midst of the breakup, Screen Gems's You Got Served, a film starring the members of the group and Omarion's half-brother Marques Houston as break dancers, went into general release on January 30, 2004, and, hitting #1 at the box office, earned more money than any other film that opened during a Super Bowl weekend. A number of the group's songs were featured on the film's soundtrack album.
