American folk singer Arlo Guthrie was born July 10, 1947 and is best known for his 18 minute, 20 second long "Alice's Restaurant." "Alice's Restaurant" was a talking blues song which Arlo Guthrie has been known to expand it to last 45 minutes when performed in concert. The song is basically about the Vietnam War draft, in which Arlo Guthrie was called for draft examination but was declined when a background check showed a criminal record of one arrest incident.
That song was also made into a movie. Arlo Guthrie also had a hand in Steve Goodman's song "New Orleans." Arlo Gurthrie's Amigo, released in 1976, is considered by many to be his best work out of his two dozen releases. Arlo Guthrie has also appeared in films, on television, is a film and television composer, producer, and writer.
