Singer-songwriter Andrew Bird is also a violinist, guitarist, and whistler. He learned violin as a child using the Suzuki method of playing by ear. A Chicago native, he graduated from Northwestern University. His first album, released in 1996, reflects his interest in folk, jazz and blues. His collaboration with Squirrel Nut Zippers led him into the swing revival of the early ‘90s. In 1997 he formed the band Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire. The band played a variety of musical styles adding zydeco and rock to his list of genres. Andrew Bird released two solo albums exploring more genres. His latest release is 2005's eclectic CD The Mysterious Production of Eggs.
