Italian crooner Andrea Bocelli was born in rural Tuscany. Andrea Bocelli developed an early fascination with opera and sang locally. His site was impaired since birth and at the age of 12 Andrea Bocelli lost his site completely. As he entered adulthood he earned a law degree and even worked as a defense attorney. But music kept calling and he studied under a number of teachers including his hero, the tenor Franco Corelli. Drafted to help Italian rock star Zucchero record a demo to be pitched to Luciano Pavoratti, Andrea Bocelli was recognized by Pavoratti as an untapped talent. A televised debut as part of the San Remo Song Festival made Andrea Bocelli an overnight sensation in Italy.
International attention followed with Con Te Partiro/Time to Say Goodbye, released as an Andrea Bocelli solo and as a duet with Sarah Brightman. Romanza, the Andrea Bocelli debut album of 1996, featured passionate popular songs and album sales exploded. Andrea Bocelli then recorded two classical albums showcasing his talents as a tenor and furthering his audience, even in English speaking markets.
A 1999 Grammy nomination for Andrea Bocelli was followed by a duet with Celine Dion for the animated feature Quest for Camelot. The song earned Andrea Bocelli an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe for best song. The second pop album Andrea Bocelli released topped the charts internationally. Andrea Bocelli now had four albums ranking simultaneously on the U.S. pop chart, something very few artists have ever accomplished. The Andrea Bocelli album Sacred Arias became the biggest selling album by a classical soloist of all time. He has performed at the Vatican, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, the Olympics, and the New York 911 Memorial Service.
During the next several years Andrea Bocelli released pop, classical, and opera albums, breaking records at every step along the way. A spot in the Guiness Book of World Records lists Andrea Bocelli as the artist who held positions 1, 2, and 3 simultaneously on the U.S. Classical Album charts. The year 2005 brought a new album in all three categories amid a hectic touring schedule. Andrea Bocelli is filling stadiums across the world in his 2006 tour with no signs of slowing down.
