Amy Rigby calls herself music's sweetest cynic. She grew up in Pittsburgh and got into music in the early 1980s in New York. She started playing guitar and writing songs. Amy Rigby earned cult success with the postmodern girl group the Shams. She would gain critical acclaim for her song writing talents with comparisons being drawn to Elvis Costello.

Pop, country and folk influenced her 1996 solo debut Diary of a Mod Housewife, a record widely acclaimed for its vivid portraits of life as a thirty-something single mother. Her music even became fodder for women's studies. 2005's Little Fugitive is her latest release.
