Adam Ant Information

Stuart Leslie Goddard was the lead singer of 1980s pop group Adam and the Ants and later became a solo artist known as Adam Ant. Born in 1954 in London, Adam Ant was an early punk rocker. His first band was Bazooka Joe, which got big enough for the Sex Pistols to open for them. The Ants split up in early 1982 and Adam Ant went Solo. 1982's Friend or Foe album led to his greatest success with the hit single "Goody Two Shoes," No. 1 in the UK and No.12 in the US. He continued working with former Ants band member and songwriting partner Marco Pirroni.

Adam Ant spent the late1980s pursuing acting. He returned to music in 1990. He never reached his previous success but when he tours the house is packed. A new generation of Ant-influenced artists covered Adam and the Ants' hits during the 90s, including Elastica, Sugar Ray, Nine Inch Nails, Superchunk and Robbie Williams. Adam Ant himself has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
