British instrumental and smooth jazz band Acoustic Alchemy came out of England in the early '80s. During that time, Acoustic Alchemy managed to make a name for themselves thanks to their sound of two dueling acoustic guitars, double bass, percussion, and the occasional string quartet.
The band first worked as the in-flight band to and from the United States on Virgin Atlantic. Soon enough, they were signed by MCA, and release their debut album Red Dust and Spanish Lace in 1987. After a few more releases, Acoustic Alchemy switched over to GRP Records (which was the world's biggest jazz label at that time).
Positive Thinking was released in 1998, and original frontman for Acoustic Alchemy Nick Webb died shortly afterward. Miles Gilderdale and Craig Chaquico were brought in, and the band began experimenting with a different sound. AArt, released in 2001, was nominated for a Grammy Award. Their most recent release was 2005's American/English, which featured 11 tracks with varying genres but still maintaining the same Acoustic Alchemy feel as previous release.
