The Canadian band A Silver Mt. Zion hails from Montreal. It was formed by Godspeed You! Black Emperor musicians Efrim Menuck, Sophie Trudeau and Thierry Amar in 1999. The 2006 lineup also includes Becky Foon, Ian Ilavsky, Scott Levine Gilmore, and Jessica Moss. A Silver Mt. Zion is a post-rock band and its music does include vocals, unlike Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
A Silver Mt. Zion has an international fan base. Their songs often feature political themes. Motifs relating to Judaism are sometimes present in their music as well. Their fifth album, 2005's Horses in the Sky, is their most recent release. Their first U.S. performance came the same year, followed by more U.S. concert stops in 2006.
