50 Cent entered the rap scene in true gangster form. After having a tough childhood, failed bids for an album, and an unsuccessful attempt on his life, 50 finally emerged into mainstream rap in 2002. He was signed by Eminem to a seven-figure contract and quickly rose to the top in 2003.

Prior to being mainstream, 50 Cent began a group called 'G-Unit'. Together they put out many mix-tape tracks, which gained them a good reputation on the streets of New York, but not the mainstream attention they wanted. This is where Eminem came into the picture. He worked closely with 50 and even debuted him on his 8 Mile soundtrack. Eminem's admiration for 50 made him a rising star.

50 Cent is one of the few rappers who actually lived what rappers rap about, including drugs, crime, stabbings, incarceration, and of course shootings. All of this was experience prior to the release of his highly successful mainstream debut album titled 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'. This album features many booming hits such as 'In Da Club', '21 Questions', and 'P.I.M.P.' 'In Da Club' eventually made it all the way to number 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.
