The band 3 Doors Down was formed in 1996, by Brad Arnold (on vocals), Todd Harrell (on bass), Matt Roberts (on guitar), and Chris Henderson (on guitar), with Richard Liles (on drums) in Escatawpa, Mississippi. The band is an alternative rock band

In 1996, Harrell formed a band with Arnold and Roberts. The trio came up with their name while in Alabama and saw the partial phrase 'Doors Down' on a building. Then in 1998, Chris Henderson, who had played with Harrell previously, joined 3 Doors Down. Richard Liles was used with the band as a studio drummer to allow Arnold to be the front man on vocals. Daniel Adair, who hails from Vancouver would later join the band on drums after Liles left.

3 Doors Down recorded a few demos to sell at performances. Their song "Kryptonite" got the band recognized by record labels as it became a favorite during performances and a hit with local radio stations. The group's signing to a label (Republic Records of Universal Records) came after a performance at CBGB's in New York.

3 Doors Down is an American alternative rock band, they were formed in 1997. They signed to Universal Records in 2000 for their first record, The Better Life. They received international attention with the release of their song; "Kryptonite". The single crossed over several formats, peaking at #1 on rock, alternative and pop radio. The album went on to sell over 5 million copies, thanks to the longest running #1 single on rock radio in Billboard's chart history, "Loser" (21 weeks at #1), "Duck & Run" (a #1 rock smash) and another Top 40 crossover smash "Be Like That", which peaked at #25 on the Hot 100.

While the band experience a lot of exposure and fame for singles on their first album, the follow up proved to be just as successful. In 2002, "Away From The Sun" was released with the hit single "When I'm Gone". Featuring a video in tribute to American troops, the single's popularity enabled the hit to remain on the charts for almost a year, again garnering multiple format airplay from rock to pop to alternative radio. It also became their second biggest hit to date on rock radio, spending 17 weeks on top of the chart (second only to the band's own "Loser"). "Here Without You" became another multi-format smash while singles "The Road I'm On" and "Away From The Sun" were minor hits. The album went on to sell over 3 million copies. 3 Doors Down prepare for the release of their new album on February 2005. First single "Let Me Go" is already gaining airplay on rock and alternative formats.

It's safe to say the members of 3 Doors Down—Brad Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts, bassist Todd Harrell and guitarist Chris Henderson (with new drummer Daniel Adair who hails from Vancouver)--could afford to move anywhere in the world following their debut's rampant success. But the childhood friends remained down-to-earth and returned to their old hometown for a well-earned breather before recording the follow-up, Away From The Sun. "I came home (from touring) and didn't listen to any music at all," says Brad. "I had to let my head stop spinning. It was like I had been going 90 miles per hour for so long, and then it all came to an instant stop." Their debut album, The Better Life, dropped in 2000 and was a Top 10 album on the Billboard Top 200 for 13 weeks.
