38 Special Information

38 Special started out as a Southern Rock Band. Vocalist Donnie Van Zant, the younger brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant, formed 38 Special in 1975. When they added elements of blues-rock and arena rock they enjoyed a string of successful albums and singles. 38 Special earned three No. 1 albums and 13 Top 40 singles between 1980 and 1991. 38 Special scored their first hit with the single "Hold On Loosely." They went on to sell 15 million albums over their career.

38 Special does about 100 shows per year and their sound has a harder rock edge than their earlier hits. In 2004 they released their first studio album in years, Drivetrain. The current 38 Special lineup includes Donnie Van Zant, guitarists Don Barnes and Danny Chauncey, bassist Larry Junstrom, keyboardist Bobby Capps, and drummer Gary Moffatt.
