Born March 25, 1942, Aretha Franklin gathered her musical foundation at church. By the time she was 14, Aretha captured a record deal with Checker Records. The rest is history for Aretha as she began to prove she could perfect an unattained sound of gospel and R&B being dubbed "The Queen of Soul" by the late ‘60's. The next decade marked a time of decline and tragedy for the artist who appeared to have peaked. It wasn't until the ‘80's that Aretha Franklin decided to "Jump to It" and reclaim her position on the charts and diva status. As the second most honored female singer, Aretha Franklin has won 17 Grammy Awards, the Living Legend Grammy and the Lifetime Achievement Grammy. Aretha shows her perseverance as an artist and performer on her most recent release, So Damn Happy. She soon went on to start her own label, Aretha Records. Due out end of summer 2007 is Aretha's debut production, A Woman Falling Out of Love.
