The musical The Pirate Queen tells the story of Grace O'Malley, an Irish clan leader who became a pirate. This story of love, loss, family, and fortitude is set in 16th century Ireland. It is an epic love story that follows the events of a real life leader. The Pirate Queen is filled with passion and adventure. Tony Award winners Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the authors of Les Misérables and Miss Saigon, brought the spectacular musical The Pirate Queen to the stage. Classic storytelling and a sweeping score, with the powerful, vibrant traditions of Irish dance and song, make The Pirate Queen an unforgettable theater experience. Tony Award-winner Frank Galati directed The Pirate Queen with choreography by Mark Dendy. The producers of The Pirate Queen, Moya Doherty and John McColgan, are responsible for the worldwide phenomenon Riverdance. Chicago will be the first to enjoy The Pirate Queen's world premiere at Broadway In Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre, beginning Tuesday, October 3, 2006. The Pirate Queen will run two months before it moves on to Broadway. It will open at Broadway's Hilton Theatre on March 22, 2007. Stephanie J. Block from The Boy From Oz is scheduled to play the lead in The Pirate Queen. Block led the Nationala Tour of Wicked playing the the lead character Elphaba.
