One of its performers was the nanny to playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Wasserstein recommended the show to William Finn and he worked together with creator Rebecca Feldman and Finn's former student Rachel Sheinkin to create a musical version. After breaking records off Broadway The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee moved to Broadway's Circle in the Square on April 15, 2005.
