The Broadway musical The Color Purple combines all the drama and depth of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and Steven Spielberg's beloved film The Color Purple with original music to make it the hottest theater ticket in town. LaChanze, a widow following the September 11 tragedy, brings depth and understanding to her character in The Color Purple. Her portrayal won LaChanze a 2006 best actress Tony Award.
