Cats Information

Set in a junk yard Cats is the story of a group of felines who gather together to decide which will be reborn. Based on the poems of T.S. Elliot the plot is minimal. Each cat basically auditions and the musical becomes a character study of the various felines and their social standing. This premise provides a fabulous showcase for dance, acrobatic, and vocal talents. The costumes are fantastic and it provided a beautiful family friendly show before Disney dominated live family theatre.

The Andrew Lloyd Weber musical opened in London in 1982 and ran for 21 years. Breaking records on Broadway as well, it held the record for most performances until 2006 when The Phantom of the Opera surpassed it. Cats won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical in 1983. Its song "Memory" became the most well known Andrew Lloyd Weber song and has been recorded by more than 150 artists. Cats still tours and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
