Beauty and the Beast Information

The original version of Beauty and the Beast was written back in 1740 by Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villanueva. Sixteen years later, Beauty and the Beast, was abridged by Madame Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, which is considered the best-known written version. The fairy tale has been adapted for the stage and the screen numerous times.

The French version of Beauty and the Beast was made in 1946. Beauty and the Beast has also been adapted as a television series, comic books, and made-for-television movies. Disney produced an animated version of Beauty and the Beast in 1991. The Disney version won Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Original Score, and was the first-ever animated picture to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar. The original story had changed quite a bit in the Disney version; nevertheless, it is considered by many to be one of Walt Disney's classic animations.

Disneys first musical is brought to life in the theatrical version, complete with Belle and all her friends . Beauty and the Beast is a legend on Broadway as the sixth longest-running show. In 1994, Beauty and the Beast was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Currently playing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, Beauty and the Beast has been performed in 15 countries, in seven languages, and in front of over 24 million people around the world.
