Avenue Q | Avenue Q Schedule Avenue Q Tickets |
Avenue Q first opened off-Broadway in March 2003. Four months later, Avenue Q moved to the Golden Theatre on Broadway and has been there ever since. Avenue Q focuses on many topics that might be deemed slightly risqué. A main part of Avenue Q is the singing puppets that perform with the people. In fact, the urban drama Avenue Q has been called Sesame Street meets RENT. Avenue Q has been performed over 1,000 times since it opened on Broadway.
Avenue Q features music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with the book by Jeff Whitty. Avenue Q tells the story of Princeton, a recent college graduate who finds out that the only part of New York City he can afford to live in is Avenue Q. Avenue Q relates to the problems we all face while growing up. Although Avenue Q uses puppets, it is not recommended for children based on the conte nt of the material that is covered.
Avenue Q won the 2003 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding New Musical, and was nominated for the 2003 Outer Critics Circle Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical Award. Avenue Q has also made television appearances. Avenue Q presented their version of the Bush-Kerry debate on September 30, 2004. John Tartagalia and his puppet Rod were "man-on-the-street" interviewers during the 2005 Macy's Day Parade. Avenue Q won the 2004 Tony Award Best Musical, the 2004 Tony Award Best Book of a Musical, and the 2004 Tony Award Best Original Score. Avenue Q was also named the Best Show of 2003 in a number of publications including Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, the New York Post, and Broadway.com.
