Aida Information

Disney-backed Aida is a musical that delves into love and classism. Elton John and Time Rice wrote the music for Aida. The musical Aida received four 2000 Tony Awards including Best Music/Lyrics and the 2000 GRAMMY® Award for Best Musical Show Album.

Based on Verdi's opera, Aida tells the story of a forbidden love triangle. The central character is Aida, a Nubian princess forced into captivity. Amneris is a superficial Egyptian princess and her betrothed beau Radames, is a soldier who falls for Aida. The story follows some twists and turns including an unusual friendship between Aida and Amneris and some parental intervention.

Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida opened on Broadway at the Palace Theatre in March 2000. Aida ended its triumphant four-and-a-half year run on Broadway in September 2004. Aida moved on to an International stage with performances in Seoul, South Korea, and Munich, Germany.
