42nd Street started as a film of the same name made back when studios controlled entertainment and Ginger Rogers was the glamour girl of the day. The play, first released in 1980, tapped its way through 3,485 performances. It takes a look at life behind the scenes of Broadway. Since then a 42nd Street revival has reopened. The play 42nd Street is all about great dancing and songs. Many songs came from films in the 1930s. The revival of 42nd Street added three new songs.

The musical 42nd Street follows the story of Pretty Lady, a play within a play. Noteworthy characters include Peggy Sawyer, the innocent girl from Allentown who gets her big chance to break out of the chorus line when leading lady Dorothy Brock twists her ankle. Dorothy's stardom seems to be on the downslide and her character is contrasted by Peggy. The character of Julian Marsh is a larger-than-life director whose future rests on Pretty Lady being a hit. Jerry Orbach made the character famous in 1980.

Theatre buffs will revel in the Broadway artistry of 42nd Street. A performance of 42nd Street lets you "Come on along and listen to the lullaby of Broadway." The revival won Tony Awards for Best Actress in a Musical and Best Musical Revival.
